Aaron Blabey
Aaron Blabey (born January 1, 1974, in Bendigo, Victoria) is an Australian screen artist best known today for his writing, after first building a career in film and television acting across the 1990s and 2000s. His on-screen work includes roles in Human Touch, Pentuphouse, Twisted (segment “The Confident Man”), Turning April, Mr. Reliable, Mullet, Erskineville Kings, and The Damnation of Harvey McHugh.
In the mid-2000s, Blabey shifted focus away from acting and into visual art, developing his practice as a painter and presenting multiple solo exhibitions around Australia between 2004 and 2006. That creative pivot helped set the stage for his later prominence as an author.
Blabey is widely recognized for creating bestselling children’s series, including Pig the Pug, the New York Times #1 graphic novel phenomenon The Bad Guys, and Thelma the Unicorn. His stories often blend humor with heart, turning bold characters into modern favorites for young readers.
He married Australian actress and speech pathologist Kirstie Hutton in 2000.
