Adam Arkin

Adam Arkin (born August 19, 1956, in Brooklyn, New York) is an American screen actor and director with a long-running presence across film, television, and theater. He comes from a celebrated acting family: his father is Oscar winner Alan Arkin, and his brother, Matthew Arkin, is also an actor.

Arkin became widely recognized on TV for his work on Chicago Hope as Dr. Aaron Shutt, and for his recurring turn as the volatile, paranoid Adam on Northern Exposure, a role that earned him an Emmy nomination. His stage career has been equally notable, including a Tony nomination for I Hate Hamlet.

Behind the camera, Arkin has built a respected directing résumé, highlighted by a Daytime Emmy win for Outstanding Directing in a Children’s Special for My Louisiana Sky and a Directors Guild nomination. He later co-starred on the series Life and made a memorable impact as antagonist Ethan Zobelle on Sons of Anarchy.

On the big screen, his credits include Halloween H20: 20 Years Later, Hitch, A Serious Man, The Doctor, and A Slight Case of Murder, showcasing his range from drama to sharp-edged comedy.
