Adam Somner
Adam Somner (1967–2024) was a London-born screen professional who built a distinguished career in the U.S. film industry, best known for his work behind the camera as an assistant director and producer. Over decades on major sets, he became a trusted collaborator for celebrated filmmakers including Martin Scorsese, Steven Spielberg, Alejandro González Iñárritu, Paul Thomas Anderson, and Ridley Scott.
Somner’s producing credits include Paul Thomas Anderson’s Licorice Pizza (2021), a widely acclaimed film that earned top-tier awards attention, including nominations for the Academy Award for Best Picture, the Golden Globe for Best Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy, and the BAFTA for Best Film. He also appeared as himself in documentary and behind-the-scenes projects such as Spielberg and Strength and Honor: Creating the World of 'Gladiator'.
Born in London, England, Somner later lived and worked in Los Angeles. He died on November 27, 2024, in Studio City, California, from anaplastic thyroid cancer, aged 57. His final project, One Battle After Another, was dedicated to his memory.
