Adam Wingard
Adam Wingard (born December 3, 1982, in Oak Ridge, Tennessee) is an American screen artist best known as a director, with a career that also spans producing, writing, editing, cinematography, acting, and even composing. Emerging from the early-2000s indie scene, he developed a hands-on, do-it-yourself approach that helped shape his distinctive voice.
Wingard first drew attention through work associated with the mumblecore movement before pivoting into genre filmmaking, where his energetic blend of tension, dark humor, and sharp pacing made him a standout. He became especially recognized for horror and action titles such as You’re Next (2011) and The Guest (2014), which helped cement his reputation with both fans and critics.
That momentum carried him into major franchises, including Blair Witch (2016), Netflix’s Death Note (2017), and the blockbuster monster crossover Godzilla vs. Kong (2021), followed by Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire (2024). His filmography also includes on-screen and segment work in projects like V/H/S, V/H/S/2, and The ABCs of Death, reflecting a creator comfortable in both indie experimentation and studio-scale spectacle.
