Alain Chabat

Alain Chabat (born November 24, 1958, in Oran, Algeria) is a French screen artist celebrated for his work as an actor, comedian, writer, director, producer, and TV host. He first rose to national fame with the cult comedy troupe Les Nuls, helping shape a sharp, absurdist style that became a defining voice of French humor.

Building on that popularity, Chabat expanded into television as a co-creator and host of Burger Quiz, a game show whose impact in France has been widely noted for its massive audience and enduring pop-culture footprint. His on-screen persona—deadpan, playful, and self-aware—made him a natural bridge between sketch comedy and mainstream entertainment.

As a filmmaker, he is known for projects where he often writes and performs, most famously Asterix & Obelix: Mission Cleopatra (as Jules César) and the offbeat comedy RRRrrrr!!! (as Pierre). His acting range also appears in acclaimed films such as The Taste of Others (as Bruno Deschamps), French Twist, and Michel Gondry’s dreamlike The Science of Sleep (as Guy).

Chabat continues to move fluidly between live-action and voice work, including roles like Chef Didier (voice) in Smoking Causes Coughing, remaining one of the most recognizable and influential figures in modern French comedy cinema.
