Alan Ruck
Alan Ruck (also credited as Alan Douglas Ruck) is an American screen actor born on July 1, 1956, in Cleveland, Ohio. With a career spanning film and television, he’s known for bringing smart, offbeat humanity to both comedic and dramatic roles.
Ruck became a pop-culture fixture as Cameron Frye in John Hughes’ teen classic Ferris Bueller’s Day Off, a performance that helped define the era. He later built a strong television résumé, including a long-running turn as Stuart Bondek on ABC’s Spin City, and a widely praised role as Connor Roy on HBO’s Succession, which earned him a Primetime Emmy Award nomination.
On the big screen, Ruck’s credits range from action and disaster thrills to character-driven ensemble films. Notable appearances include Speed (as Stephens), Twister (as Rabbit), Star Trek: Generations (as Captain John Harriman), Three Fugitives (as Tener), and Young Guns II (as Hendry William French), along with roles in Class and The Happening.
Whether playing a reluctant best friend, a nervous professional under pressure, or an eccentric heir in a prestige drama, Alan Ruck remains a reliable presence—an actor whose subtle choices often make the biggest impact.
