André Øvredal
André Øvredal (also credited as Andre Øvredal) is a Norwegian filmmaker, born May 6, 1973. Best known as a director, he has built an international reputation for genre storytelling that blends grounded realism with sharp suspense.
Øvredal broke through with Troll Hunter (2010), a clever reimagining of Nordic folklore through a modern lens. He later expanded his reach with the chilling, atmospheric horror film The Autopsy of Jane Doe (2016), followed by the studio-backed adaptation Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark (2019), which introduced his style to a wider audience.
Continuing to move between languages and scales, he directed the myth-tinged fantasy action film Mortal (2020) and the period horror feature The Last Voyage of the Demeter (2023). He has also appeared as himself in documentary and TV projects including King on Screen, The Found Footage Phenomenon, and Eli Roth's History of Horror.
