Andrew Adamson
Andrew Adamson (born December 1, 1966, in Auckland, New Zealand) is a New Zealand director, producer, and screenwriter whose career has bridged cutting-edge effects work and global family blockbusters. Based largely in Los Angeles, he became a key creative force in modern studio animation, helping shape films that reached massive audiences worldwide.
Adamson is best known for steering DreamWorks’ Shrek franchise, including Shrek and Shrek 2, which earned major industry recognition, including an Academy Award nomination. He also contributed on-screen voice work in the series, notably as the Captain of the Guards in Shrek 2 and as the uncredited Duloc Mascot in Shrek.
Expanding beyond animation, he directed and served as executive producer and co-writer on The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe. Production returned to his home country, filming around Auckland and across New Zealand’s South Island—regions also associated with other landmark fantasy productions.
Earlier in his career, Adamson worked in visual effects, including roles on Batman Forever and Batman & Robin. In 2006, he was appointed a Member of the New Zealand Order of Merit, recognizing his impact on film and storytelling.
