Annette Bening

Annette Bening (born May 29, 1958, in Topeka, Kansas) is an American screen and stage actor celebrated for intelligent, emotionally precise performances across drama, comedy, and everything in between. Over a career spanning more than four decades, she has earned major industry recognition, including BAFTA, Golden Globe, and Screen Actors Guild honors, alongside multiple Academy Award, Tony, and Emmy nominations.

After studying at San Francisco State University and training with the American Conservatory Theater, Bening built her early reputation in theater before breaking through on Broadway in Coastal Disturbances. Her transition to film quickly drew attention, with The Grifters establishing her as a formidable presence and setting the stage for a run of acclaimed work.

On screen, she is widely known for American Beauty as Carolyn Burnham, as well as standout roles in Bugsy, Mars Attacks!, Open Range, Regarding Henry, and The Great Outdoors. In later years, she continued to expand her range with Oscar-nominated turns in The Kids Are All Right and Nyad, while also returning to Broadway and appearing at events like A Night at the Academy Museum as herself.
