Antonio Banderas

Antonio Banderas (born August 10, 1960, in Málaga, Andalusia) is a Spanish screen artist celebrated for his versatility across drama, action, comedy, and musical storytelling. Also credited as José Antonio Domínguez Banderas and José Antonio Domínguez Bandera, he has earned major international recognition, including top festival honors and nominations spanning film, television, and theatre.

Banderas first rose to prominence through a defining creative partnership with director Pedro Almodóvar, beginning with Labyrinth of Passion (1982) and continuing through a run of influential Spanish films that showcased his range and charisma. His acclaimed turn in Pain and Glory later brought him Best Actor wins, including at Cannes, and further awards attention worldwide.

He became a global star through high-profile Hollywood work, appearing in titles such as Interview with the Vampire (as Armand), Original Sin, Frida, and Once Upon a Time in Mexico. He also embodied the swashbuckling legacy of Zorro in The Legend of Zorro.

Beyond live action, Banderas is the unmistakable voice of Puss in Boots in Shrek 2 and Shrek Forever After, among other franchise entries. On stage and TV, he has drawn praise and award nominations, including for playing Pablo Picasso in Genius.
