Baltasar Kormákur
Baltasar Kormákur (also credited as Balthasar Kormakur and Baltasar Kormákur Baltasarsson) is an Icelandic screen artist born on February 27, 1966, in Reykjavík. Widely recognized as a director, he has also worked as an actor, theatre director, and producer—an all-around storyteller whose projects have helped bring Icelandic cinema to global audiences.
He gained international attention with Icelandic features such as 101 Reykjavík and The Sea, then expanded into larger-scale productions including Contraband, 2 Guns, and the survival drama Everest. His work often balances grounded character drama with propulsive genre filmmaking, moving confidently between intimate local stories and mainstream thrillers.
Kormákur’s filmography also includes A Little Trip to Heaven and Touch, alongside television work like the series Katla. As an actor, he has appeared in notable Icelandic titles such as Angels of the Universe, No Such Thing, and Reykjavik-Rotterdam, reflecting a career built on both performance and direction.
