Benedict Cumberbatch
Benedict Cumberbatch (born July 19, 1976, in Hammersmith, London) is an English screen and stage actor known for cerebral intensity, sharp wit, and transformative character work. Also credited as Benedict Timothy Carlton Cumberbatch, he has built a career that moves fluidly between prestige drama, blockbuster franchises, and acclaimed theatre.
After studying at the Victoria University of Manchester and training at the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art, Cumberbatch made his name in classical and West End productions before becoming a major television presence. His portrayal of Stephen Hawking in Hawking signaled his range, while his global breakthrough came as Sherlock Holmes in the BBC’s Sherlock, earning top industry honors.
On film, he has appeared in period and political stories such as Atonement, The Other Boleyn Girl, Creation, and Amazing Grace, and has been recognized for leading performances including The Imitation Game and The Power of the Dog.
