Benjamin Clementine

Benjamin Clementine (also credited as Benjamin Sainte-Clémentine and Benjamin Clémentine) is a London-born screen artist and acclaimed composer-musician whose singular presence has carried him from the streets of Paris to major international stages and sets. Born on December 7, 1988, he grew up in Edmonton in a strict Roman Catholic household, discovering the piano early and teaching himself by ear through classical radio rather than formal training.

As a teenager Clementine left school, endured periods of instability and homelessness, and later relocated to Paris. There, he busked and performed in bars and hotels around Place de Clichy while writing new material, gradually becoming a cult figure in the city’s music scene. His breakthrough accelerated after industry champions helped him record and release work that drew attention for its poetic, genre-resistant intensity.

Back in the UK, his debut album At Least for Now won the 2015 Mercury Prize, and in 2019 France honored him as a Knight of the Order of Arts and Letters. Critics often cite his writing for its blend of revolt, tenderness, and sharp observation—qualities that translate naturally to the screen.

As an actor, Clementine is known for roles including the Herald of the Change in Dune, Ife in Blitz, and Mephistopheles in In the Hand of Dante, alongside high-profile TV appearances such as The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon and X Factor.
