Bill Nighy

Bill Nighy (born December 12, 1949, in Caterham, Surrey, England) is an acclaimed English screen and stage actor celebrated for his distinctive voice, sharp wit, and quietly magnetic presence. Across a career spanning theatre, film, and television, he has earned major honors including multiple BAFTAs and a Golden Globe, along with nominations for both the Academy Awards and the Tony Awards.

Nighy’s early foundation was built in repertory and on prestigious London stages, including work with the Royal National Theatre. He became known for standout performances in modern classics and new writing alike, later adding an Olivier nomination and making a successful leap to Broadway—where his work continued to draw top-tier recognition.

On film, he moved from early comedies like Still Crazy to a breakout turn as washed-up rocker Billy Mack in Love Actually, which brought him a BAFTA win. He then became a global favorite as the haunting Davy Jones in Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest and At World’s End, and as Viktor in the Underworld series. Other notable credits include Shaun of the Dead and Notes on a Scandal.

Television has been equally central to his reputation, with award-winning performances in dramas and prestige films. Whether playing eccentric, romantic, or formidable characters, Nighy remains one of Britain’s most reliably compelling actors.
