Bradley Whitford

Bradley Whitford (born October 10, 1959, in Madison, Wisconsin) is an American screen actor and producer celebrated for sharp, intelligent performances across film and television. He became a household name as Josh Lyman, the White House Deputy Chief of Staff, on NBC’s political drama The West Wing (1999–2006), earning a Primetime Emmy for his work on the series.

Whitford has repeatedly pivoted between prestige drama and crowd-pleasing comedy. On TV, he headlined Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip, appeared on The Mentalist as Timothy Carter, and played Roger Peralta on Brooklyn Nine-Nine. His acclaimed run as Commander Joseph Lawrence on Hulu’s The Handmaid’s Tale (2018–2025) brought him another Emmy win, underscoring his knack for complex, morally ambiguous roles.

In film, Whitford’s range spans studio hits and genre favorites, from Billy Madison (as Eric Gordon) to Awakenings (Dr. Tyler), Presumed Innocent (Jamie Kemp), Kate & Leopold (J.J. Camden), and The Cabin in the Woods (Steve Hadley). He also appeared in Bicentennial Man (Lloyd) and The Client (Thomas Fink), building a career defined by versatility and precision.

Whitford has also been recognized for standout guest work, including an Emmy-winning appearance on Transparent, where he later earned additional nominations—proof that whether leading or supporting, he consistently elevates the story.
