Brian Lynch

Brian Lynch (born June 21, 1973, in Middletown Township, New Jersey) is an American screenwriter and comic-book writer whose work spans blockbuster animation and franchise storytelling. Known primarily for writing, he has built a career around sharp comedy, character-driven plotting, and crowd-pleasing family entertainment.

Lynch is widely recognized for his screenplays for major animated hits including Puss in Boots (2011), Minions (2015), The Secret Life of Pets (2016), The Secret Life of Pets 2 (2019), and Minions: The Rise of Gru (2022). Across these films, he helped shape modern animation’s fast-paced humor and accessible emotional beats.

Beyond film, Lynch has a strong footprint in comics. He served as the original writer and co-creator of Angel: After the Fall for IDW Publishing, developed in collaboration with Joss Whedon, expanding the Angel universe for longtime fans. He has also worked on unproduced screenplay adaptations of The Sims and The Muppets.

On-screen, he has appeared in small roles, including A Better Place (credited as Eddie) and an uncredited bit in Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back as Comic Book Shopper #1.
