Bruce Boxleitner

Bruce Boxleitner (born May 12, 1950, in Elgin, Illinois) is an American actor and science-fiction author whose career spans decades across television, film, and publishing. Trained at New York’s American Academy of Dramatic Arts, he built his foundation on stage before moving into screen work and steadily landing roles from the 1970s onward.

He became a mainstream favorite in the 1980s as secret agent Lee “Scarecrow” Stetson on Scarecrow and Mrs. King, where his easy charm and action-ready presence helped turn the series into a long-running hit. That visibility positioned him as a dependable leading man for both episodic TV and movies.

Boxleitner is also closely tied to landmark science fiction, starring as Alan Bradley / Tron in Disney’s Tron and returning decades later for TRON: Legacy. Genre fans further associate him with Babylon 5, where he played John J. Sheridan across the series and films including A Call to Arms, Thirdspace, and In the Beginning.

Beyond acting, he has pursued writing, publishing science-fiction novels and expanding his creative footprint outside the camera. His personal life has included marriages to Kathryn Crane and later Melissa Gilbert.
