Bruce Campbell

Bruce Campbell (born June 22, 1958, in Birmingham, Michigan) is an American screen actor, filmmaker, and enduring cult favorite whose career blends horror, comedy, and adventure. He is most closely associated with the swaggering, wisecracking hero Ash Williams, a role that began in Sam Raimi’s early short Within the Woods and exploded in the Evil Dead saga, including Evil Dead II and Army of Darkness.

Beyond the cabin-in-the-woods mythology, Campbell became a familiar face across genre cinema and television, often anchoring projects with his self-aware charm. He led series such as The Adventures of Brisco County, Jr. and Jack of All Trades, played the fan-favorite thief Autolycus on Hercules and Xena, and later won new audiences as Sam Axe on Burn Notice. He returned to his signature character in Ash vs. Evil Dead, keeping the franchise’s spirit alive for a new era.

Campbell has also worked behind the camera as a writer, director, and producer, notably on Man with the Screaming Brain (as William Cole) and the self-parody My Name Is Bruce. Mainstream viewers also recognize his scene-stealing cameos in Raimi’s Spider-Man films—Spider-Man, Spider-Man 2, and Spider-Man 3—plus roles like the Surgeon General of Beverly Hills in Escape from L.A..
