Candice Bergen
Candice Bergen (also credited as Candice Patricia Bergen and occasionally as Candy Bergen) is an American screen artist born on May 9, 1946, in Beverly Hills, California. She first gained public attention as a fashion model—famously appearing on the cover of Vogue—before moving into film and television.
Bergen’s screen breakthrough came in the 1960s, with early roles including The Group and The Sand Pebbles. She went on to build a versatile film résumé through the 1970s and beyond, earning major awards recognition, including an Academy Award nomination for Starting Over and a BAFTA nomination for her work in Gandhi as photojournalist Margaret Bourke-White.
On television, Bergen became a defining comedic presence as the sharp, principled journalist in Murphy Brown, a performance that brought multiple Emmy and Golden Globe wins and later returned in a revival. She also impressed in drama as Shirley Schmidt on Boston Legal, while making memorable guest appearances on Sex and the City as Enid Frick.
Her later film credits highlight her range in mainstream hits and ensemble comedies, including Miss Congeniality (Kathy Morningside), Sweet Home Alabama (Mayor Kate Hennings), Bride Wars, and The In-Laws.
