Cate Blanchett

Cate Blanchett (also credited as Catherine Élise Blanchett) is an Australian screen actor and producer born on May 14, 1969, in Melbourne, Victoria. Celebrated for her range, she moves effortlessly between intimate independent dramas, major studio franchises, and acclaimed stage work, earning a reputation as one of her generation’s most versatile performers.

After training at Australia’s National Institute of Dramatic Art, Blanchett built early momentum in theatre before breaking through globally as Queen Elizabeth I in Elizabeth (1998), a performance that brought major awards attention and the first of multiple Oscar nominations. She later won the Academy Award for portraying Katharine Hepburn in Martin Scorsese’s The Aviator (2004), and took Best Actress for her riveting turn in Blue Jasmine (2013).

Blanchett is equally at home in blockbuster storytelling, notably as Galadriel in The Lord of the Rings trilogy, and in standout roles across films such as Babel, The Good German, The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou, Coffee and Cigarettes, and Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. Her work across film, television, and theatre continues to draw top-tier recognition worldwide.
