Charles Parnell

Charles Parnell (born October 26, 1964, in Chicago, Illinois) is an American screen and voice actor recognized for authoritative, grounded performances across film and television. He drew wide attention as Rear Admiral Solomon “Warlock” Bates in Top Gun: Maverick (2022), adding calm command to the blockbuster’s high-stakes ensemble.

On television, Parnell became a familiar face to daytime audiences when he stepped into the role of Police Chief Derek Frye on All My Children, taking over the part during the show’s mid-2000s run. He later expanded his profile in primetime as Master Chief Russ Jeter on TNT’s naval drama The Last Ship (2014–2018).

Parnell’s film work includes high-profile thrillers and franchises, such as Mission: Impossible installments, The Killer (as lawyer Hodges), and Transformers: Age of Extinction (as the CIA Director). He also appears in indie features like Pariah and Mind the Gap, showcasing range beyond studio tentpoles.

As a voice performer, he has narrated How Bruce Lee Changed the World and brought characters to life in animation, notably Jefferson Twilight on The Venture Bros., as well as additional voice roles in projects like Everyone’s Hero.
