Chiwetel Ejiofor

Chiwetel Ejiofor (born July 10, 1977, in Forest Gate, London) is a British screen and stage actor celebrated for emotionally precise performances across prestige drama, mainstream thrillers, and genre cinema. His work has earned major industry recognition, including a BAFTA win, an Olivier Award, and multiple high-profile nominations, alongside UK honours for services to the arts (OBE, later CBE).

After joining the National Youth Theatre and training at the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art, Ejiofor’s breakout arrived early when Steven Spielberg cast him in Amistad as Ensign Covey. He continued building a reputation with standout film roles such as Okwe in Dirty Pretty Things, Peter in Love Actually, and Bill Mitchell in Inside Man, balancing intimacy with intensity.

His career-defining turn as Solomon Northup in 12 Years a Slave brought him a BAFTA for Best Actor and global acclaim. He has since moved fluidly between character-driven stories and large-scale franchises, including Marvel’s Karl Mordo in Doctor Strange.

Beyond acting, Ejiofor has expanded into filmmaking, writing, directing, and starring in The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind, underscoring his range as a modern screen artist.
