Clancy Brown
Clancy Brown (born January 5, 1959, in Urbana, Ohio) is an American screen actor celebrated for his commanding presence and a career defined by formidable authority figures and memorable antagonists. Working steadily since the 1980s, he has become a familiar face across major studio films, prestige television, and animation.
On the big screen, Brown has delivered standout performances in genre and drama alike, including The Shawshank Redemption as Captain Byron T. Hadley and Starship Troopers as Career Sergeant Zim. His other notable film credits include Pet Sematary II (Sheriff Gus Gilbert), Pathfinder (Gunnar), The Guardian (Capt. William Hadley), and Extreme Prejudice (Sgt. Larry McRose), cementing his reputation for intense, grounded character work.
Brown is equally influential as a voice performer. He has voiced Lex Luthor in animation, including Superman/Batman: Public Enemies, and continues to expand his animated résumé with roles such as Rahzar in Tales of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Super Shredder. Also credited as Clarence J. Brown III and Clarence John Brown III, he remains one of American entertainment’s most versatile character artists.
