Dan Hernandez
Dan Hernandez (born November 20, 1983) is an American film and television writer and producer known for smart, character-driven comedy and pop-culture storytelling. Working across both features and series, he has built a reputation as a versatile screen artist with a strong collaborative voice.
Hernandez is widely recognized for co-writing Pokémon Detective Pikachu, developed with his longtime writing partner Benji Samit alongside additional credited writers. The film helped bring a beloved game franchise to the big screen with a mix of humor, mystery, and heartfelt adventure.
On television, Hernandez and Samit have contributed scripts to comedy-forward shows including One Day at a Time, The Tick, Super Fun Night, and 1600 Penn. Their work earned industry attention, including a spot on Paste Magazine’s 2018 roundup of standout comedy writers.
In 2019, the duo secured a long-term deal with 20th Century Fox Television to develop, write, and produce both animated and live-action series. Hernandez is also associated with Con Man (uncredited), reflecting his broader footprint in screenwriting.
