Daveed Diggs

Daveed Diggs (also credited as Daveed Daniele Diggs and known musically as clipping.) is an Oakland-born American screen artist whose work spans acting, music, and writing. Born January 24, 1982, he first gained major mainstream attention by originating the dual roles of Marquis de Lafayette and Thomas Jefferson in Broadway’s Hamilton, a breakout performance that helped earn him both Grammy and Tony recognition.

Beyond the stage, Diggs built a steady on-screen profile with a recurring run on Black-ish (2016–2018) and film roles in titles such as Wonder (2017) and Velvet Buzzsaw (2019). He also expanded into voice acting, lending his talents to animated features including DC League of Super-Pets as Victor Stone/Cyborg and Trolls Band Together as Spruce.

Diggs’ creative range is especially evident in Blindspotting (2018), which he co-wrote, produced, and starred in—work that brought Independent Spirit Award attention for his leading performance. More recently, he has continued balancing character-driven projects and narration, with credits like Living Worlds (narrator) and upcoming work such as Nickel Boys as Adult Elwood.
