David Fincher

David Fincher (also credited as Dave Fincher and David Andrew Leo Fincher) is an American director born on August 28, 1962, in Denver, Colorado. Known for meticulously crafted thrillers and darkly precise storytelling, his films have earned dozens of Academy Award nominations, including multiple Best Director nods.

Fincher’s fascination with filmmaking started early, and he first made a major impact through music videos, notably Madonna’s “Express Yourself” and “Vogue,” which brought him top MTV directing honors. He transitioned to features with Alien³ (1992), then broke through with the chilling hit Se7en (1995). While The Game (1997) and Fight Club (1999) initially divided audiences, Fight Club later became a defining cult classic.

He cemented his modern reputation with acclaimed films such as Panic Room, Zodiac, The Social Network, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, Gone Girl, and Mank. The Social Network won him major directing prizes including the Golden Globe and BAFTA, while The Curious Case of Benjamin Button and Gone Girl became global box-office standouts.

Beyond cinema, Fincher helped shape prestige TV as an executive producer and director on Netflix’s House of Cards and Mindhunter, earning an Emmy for directing the House of Cards pilot. He also appears in documentary and bonus-feature credits as himself, including Side by Side and The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo behind-the-scenes projects.
