David Frankel

David Frankel (born April 2, 1959, in New York City) is an American filmmaker best known for his work as a director across film and television. Also credited in Korean as 데이빗 프랭클, he has built a career defined by sharp storytelling, confident performances, and a polished sense of pace.

Frankel reached global audiences with The Devil Wears Prada (2006), a modern workplace classic that showcased his ability to balance comedy, drama, and character-driven tension. His profile expanded further with the announcement of a 2026 sequel, reaffirming the lasting impact of the original and his role in shaping its tone.

On television, Frankel directed two episodes of the acclaimed World War II miniseries Band of Brothers (2001), earning an Emmy Award for his contribution to the series’ cinematic realism and emotional weight. Earlier, he won the Academy Award for Best Live Action Short Film for Dear Diary (1996), marking him as a filmmaker with range from short-form craft to large-scale productions.

Beyond directing, Frankel has appeared as himself in industry and behind-the-scenes titles such as The Making of 'Band of Brothers' and 10 Most Excellent Things: The Devil Wears Prada, and is also associated with projects like On the Lot.
