David Michôd
David Michôd (also credited as Dave Michôd) is an Australian screen artist born on November 30, 1972, in Sydney. Working primarily as a director, he has built a reputation for sharp, character-driven storytelling across film, while also contributing as a writer, producer, and occasional actor.
Michôd broke through internationally with the crime drama Animal Kingdom (2010), widely praised for its tense atmosphere and grounded performances. He followed it with the stark, dystopian road film The Rover (2014), further cementing his standing as a filmmaker drawn to morally complex worlds and emotionally restrained intensity.
Beyond directing, Michôd has expanded his creative footprint through writing and production, including a co-writing credit on Hesher (2010). His on-screen appearances range from small acting roles—such as in The Captain and Spider—to documentary and interview-based credits like Something Elemental: Making 'The Rover'.
With a career that spans behind-the-camera leadership and selective on-camera work, Michôd remains a distinctive voice in contemporary Australian cinema, recognized for blending genre tension with intimate human detail.
