Spade’s profile rose nationally as a cast member on Saturday Night Live, where his deadpan delivery and cutting commentary helped define the era. He later became a sitcom staple, earning wide recognition as Dennis Finch on Just Shoot Me! (1997–2003) and appearing as C.J. Barnes on 8 Simple Rules alongside Katey Sagal, James Garner, and Kaley Cuoco.

On film, Spade is closely associated with cult comedies and scene-stealing supporting roles. His notable credits include Tommy Boy (Richard Hayden), Joe Dirt (Joe Dirt), Senseless (Scott Thorpe), Coneheads (Eli Turnbull, INS Agent), and Police Academy 4: Citizens on Patrol (Kyle). He also voiced the fast-talking emperor in Disney’s The Emperor’s New Groove as Kuzco.

Continuing his TV run, Spade starred as Russell Dunbar on CBS’s Rules of Engagement and has remained active across comedy, film, and animation, including development work tied to the Joe Dirt universe.
