Destin Daniel Cretton
Destin Daniel Cretton (also credited as Destin Yori Daniel Cretton) is an American director and filmmaker born on November 23, 1978, in Haiku, Hawaii. Known for character-driven storytelling, he has built a career that balances intimate human drama with large-scale studio filmmaking.
Cretton first drew major attention with the acclaimed drama Short Term 12 (2013), establishing his reputation for empathetic performances and grounded realism. He later directed adaptations and true-story-inspired projects including The Glass Castle (2017) and Just Mercy (2019), continuing to focus on themes of family, resilience, and justice.
He expanded into blockbuster cinema with Marvel Studios’ Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings (2021) and is also credited as director of Spider-Man: Brand New Day (2026). Beyond his narrative work, he has appeared as himself in industry features such as Marvel Studios Assembled, Close Up with The Hollywood Reporter, and Short Term 12: Behind the Scenes.
