Don Simpson
Don Simpson (born October 29, 1943, in Seattle, Washington; died January 19, 1996) was an American screen artist best known for shaping modern blockbuster filmmaking as a producer. He also worked as a screenwriter and occasionally appeared on camera, leaving a distinctive footprint both behind and in front of the lens.
Simpson’s most famous chapter came through his long-running partnership with producer Jerry Bruckheimer. Together, they delivered a run of high-impact, youth-driven hits that helped define 1980s and 1990s mainstream cinema, including Flashdance, Beverly Hills Cop, Top Gun, and later The Rock. Collectively, their productions generated billions in global box office and influenced the pace, style, and marketing of studio entertainment.
Industry recognition followed: Simpson and Bruckheimer were named Producers of the Year by the National Association of Theatre Owners in both 1985 and 1988, a testament to their consistent commercial success and audience appeal.
Alongside producing, Simpson’s screen appearances include credits such as Days of Thunder (as Aldo Bennedetti), Cannonball (as Assistant District Attorney), The Big Bang (as The Filmmaker), and the documentary featurette The Making of 'Crimson Tide' as himself.
