Drew Goddard

Drew Goddard (also credited as Andrew Brion Hogan Goddard) is an American writer, director, and producer born on February 26, 1975, in Houston, Texas. Best known for his writing, he’s built a reputation for sharp genre storytelling, particularly in horror and high-concept thrillers.

Goddard first made his mark in television, contributing scripts to influential series such as Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Angel, Alias, and Lost. That early work helped define his fast-paced style and character-driven approach, paving the way for a successful move into feature films.

In cinema, he wrote major studio titles including Cloverfield, World War Z, and The Martian; his adaptation work on The Martian earned him an Academy Award nomination for Best Adapted Screenplay. He also stepped behind the camera with his directorial debut, The Cabin in the Woods, a modern genre favorite.

On streaming, Goddard created Netflix’s Daredevil and later directed episodes of The Good Place. He has remained tied to the Cloverfield universe as an executive producer and was announced in 2024 as the writer-director for a new film in The Matrix franchise. Among his notable on-screen credits is Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog as “Fake Thomas Jefferson.”
