Dwayne Johnson

Dwayne Johnson (born May 2, 1972, in Hayward, California) is an American-Canadian screen star, producer, and semi-retired professional wrestler best known worldwide as The Rock. With roots that are both Black Canadian and Samoan, he grew up inside a multigenerational wrestling legacy: his father Rocky Johnson and his maternal grandfather Peter Maivia were prominent performers, and his grandmother Lia Maivia was among the sport’s rare female promoters.

Johnson parlayed that larger-than-life charisma into film, breaking through with The Mummy Returns as Mathayus/The Scorpion King before leading action vehicles like The Rundown and Walking Tall. He also showed range in projects such as Be Cool and Southland Tales, while continuing to be closely associated with WWE, including appearances like Never Forget: WWE Returns After 9/11.

Honoring his heritage, he received the Samoan noble title Seiuli in 2004 and is regarded as a non-blood relative of the Anoa’i wrestling family. In 2008, he inducted his father and grandfather into the WWE Hall of Fame.

Beyond entertainment, Johnson has supported children’s causes through the Dwayne Johnson Rock Foundation and contributed to disaster relief and community projects. He also holds Canadian citizenship, granted in recognition of his father’s background.
