Eddie Murphy

Eddie Murphy (born April 3, 1961, in Brooklyn, New York City) is an American screen artist celebrated for his high-voltage mix of comedy, charisma, and star-making versatility across film and television. Over decades in the spotlight, he has become one of Hollywood’s most commercially successful leading men, with a career that spans acting, voice work, producing, directing, and music.

Murphy first broke through as a standout cast member on Saturday Night Live in the early 1980s, then surged to movie stardom with hits like 48 Hrs. as Reggie Hammond and Trading Places as Billy Ray Valentine. He cemented his action-comedy legacy as Axel Foley in Beverly Hills Cop, Beverly Hills Cop II, and Beverly Hills Cop III, while also headlining fan favorites such as The Golden Child.

Acclaimed for both box-office power and craft, Murphy earned major awards attention for Dreamgirls, winning a Golden Globe for his performance as James “Thunder” Early and receiving an Academy Award nomination. He is also a prominent voice actor, famously bringing Donkey to life in the Shrek franchise, including Shrek Forever After.

Known for bold transformations, Murphy has often played multiple characters within a single film—an approach he has used as a tribute to classic multi-role performers—further underscoring his range and enduring influence in modern entertainment.
