Eli Roth
Eli Roth (also credited as Roth; 伊莱·罗斯; איליי רפאל רות') is an American screen artist born on April 18, 1972, in Newton, Massachusetts. Best known as a director, he has also built a parallel career as a producer, writer, and actor—often moving fluidly between behind-the-camera craft and on-screen performances.
Roth rose to prominence as part of the horror-minded wave sometimes labeled the “Splat Pack,” a group associated with modern, visceral genre filmmaking. His work helped push contemporary horror toward bolder, more graphic storytelling, while keeping a filmmaker’s eye for pacing, tension, and dark humor.
As an actor, Roth is widely recognized for playing Donny Donowitz in Quentin Tarantino’s Inglourious Basterds, a performance that contributed to major ensemble honors including a SAG Award and a Critics’ Choice Award. His filmography also includes notable appearances such as Death Proof, Cabin Fever, 2001 Maniacs, and Don’t Look Up, underscoring his range across horror, satire, and documentary-style projects.
Today, Eli Roth remains a distinctive voice in genre cinema—an auteur-leaning director with a recognizable edge, and a pop-culture presence whose credits span cult favorites and mainstream hits.
