Emmy Rossum
Emmy Rossum (also credited as Emmy Grey and Emmanuelle Grey Rossum) is a New York City–born American screen artist known for acting, as well as expanding into directing and producing. Born on September 12, 1986, she first developed her performance chops early, appearing professionally as a child with the Metropolitan Opera before transitioning to film and television.
Rossum’s early screen work built steadily through projects like Genius, Songcatcher, and Passionada, leading to a major breakthrough at sixteen in Mystic River as Katie Markum. She quickly became a recognizable presence in studio features, including The Day After Tomorrow as Laura Chapman and Poseidon as Jennifer Ramsey.
Her range widened with high-profile roles such as Christine in The Phantom of the Opera, Bulma in Dragonball Evolution, and Alexa Walker in Dare, alongside work in biographical drama like The Audrey Hepburn Story as the young Audrey. On television, she earned lasting acclaim as Fiona Gallagher in Shameless (2011–2019).
Since the mid-2010s, Rossum has increasingly shaped stories behind the camera, directing and producing television while continuing to act, including her starring role in Peacock’s Angelyne (2022). Her career reflects a performer who has grown from prodigy to multi-hyphenate creative force.
