Eric Dane

Eric Dane (born November 9, 1972, in San Francisco, California; died February 19, 2026) was an American screen actor known for bringing charisma and edge to both television and film. Also credited as Eric William Dane and early on as Eric T. Melvin, he built his career through steady work before becoming a widely recognized primetime presence.

After a run of TV roles in the 1990s and 2000s—including a memorable recurring turn on Charmed—Dane broke through globally as Dr. Mark Sloan, “McSteamy,” on ABC’s Grey’s Anatomy. He later headlined TNT’s action drama The Last Ship as Captain Tom Chandler, and delivered a darker, more complex performance as Cal Jacobs on HBO’s Euphoria. In 2025, he added another high-profile role as FBI Special Agent Nathan Blythe in Amazon Prime Video’s Countdown.

Dane’s film work ranged from studio franchises to ensemble hits, with credits including X-Men: The Last Stand, Marley & Me, Valentine’s Day, and Burlesque. He also appeared in titles such as Open Water 2: Adrift, Wedding Wars, Sol Goode, and Feast, showcasing versatility across genres.

In 2025, Dane publicly shared his diagnosis of ALS, noting symptoms that had begun about a year and a half earlier. His health declined rapidly, and he died in 2026 at age 53, leaving a legacy defined by iconic TV roles and enduring screen appeal.
