Erik Aadahl

Erik Aadahl (also credited as Эрик Адал) is an American sound artist and editor born on September 16, 1976, in San Francisco, California. Known for shaping big-screen worlds through sound, he has built a reputation for detailed, character-driven audio design across major studio films.

Aadahl studied filmmaking at the University of Southern California’s School of Cinematic Arts, graduating in 1998. From there, he moved into high-profile sound work where his craft helped define the texture and impact of modern blockbusters.

He is widely associated with the Transformers franchise, contributing to all seven films and serving as supervising sound editor on Transformers: Dark of the Moon, a project that earned him an Academy Award nomination. He also provided the voice of Bumblebee in Transformers: The Last Knight, blending performance and sound design into one of the series’ most recognizable characters.

Beyond robots and explosions, Aadahl’s range includes creating the signature roar for 2014’s Godzilla and crafting tense, immersive soundscapes for films like A Quiet Place and The Creator, frequently collaborating with fellow sound editor Ethan Van der Ryn. He also appears as himself in Making Waves: The Art of Cinematic Sound.
