Ewan McGregor

Ewan McGregor (also credited as Ewan Gordon McGregor) is a Scottish screen actor born on March 31, 1971, in Perth, Scotland. Trained at London’s Guildhall School of Music and Drama, he broke through on British television before becoming one of his generation’s most recognizable international stars. His work has earned major honors including a Golden Globe and a Primetime Emmy, and he was appointed an OBE in 2013 for services to drama and charity.

McGregor’s early film rise was fueled by bold, character-driven roles—most famously Mark Renton in Trainspotting. He quickly proved his range across genres, from the romantic sweep of Moulin Rouge! to war drama in Black Hawk Down, and imaginative storytelling in Big Fish. Other notable credits include Young Adam, The Island, Nightwatch, and Velvet Goldmine.

On the global blockbuster stage, he became synonymous with Obi-Wan Kenobi in the Star Wars prequel trilogy, later returning to the role in the 2022 limited series. Beyond acting, he expanded into directing with American Pastoral, and continues to balance film, television, and stage work.

Off-screen, McGregor is known for sustained humanitarian involvement, serving as a UNICEF UK ambassador since 2004—an ongoing commitment that complements his long-running, versatile career.
