Garth Davis

Garth Davis (born January 1, 1974) is an Australian director whose work spans television, advertising, and feature films. Emerging from a background that sharpened his visual storytelling, he became known for crafting emotionally driven narratives with a strong cinematic style.

He gained wider attention through television, including directing episodes of Top of the Lake (2013), a series noted for its tense atmosphere and character-focused drama. The project helped cement his reputation as a filmmaker capable of balancing mood, performance, and suspense.

Davis broke through internationally with Lion (2016), a widely acclaimed drama that introduced his feature directing to a global audience. He later directed the biblical drama Mary Magdalene (2018), continuing his interest in intimate, human-centered perspectives within larger historical and spiritual settings.
