Gemma Chan

Gemma Chan (also known as Evelyn Gemma Chan and 陈静) is an English screen actor born on November 29, 1982, in London, England. After studying at Worcester College, Oxford, she shifted toward performance and began building her on-screen career in the late 2000s, making her feature debut in 2009.

Chan first drew wide attention with her standout work in the Channel 4 sci‑fi drama Humans (2015–2018), where her poised, emotionally precise style helped make the series a breakout. She expanded her profile in 2018 with major roles in Crazy Rich Asians and Mary Queen of Scots, proving equally compelling in contemporary and period storytelling.

Her global reach grew through the Marvel Cinematic Universe, appearing in Captain Marvel (2019) before taking center stage in Eternals (2021) as Sersi—one of her most recognized credits. She also voiced a key character in Disney’s Raya and the Last Dragon (2021) and continued to diversify with films such as Don’t Worry Darling (2022) and The Creator (2023).

Beyond acting, Chan is frequently cited as a modern style influence, balancing blockbuster visibility with varied, character-driven choices—including the announced Untitled Anna May Wong biopic, where she is set to portray the trailblazing star.
