Hunter Schafer
Hunter Schafer (also credited as Hunter James Schafer, born December 31, 1998, in Trenton, New Jersey) is an American actor and fashion model whose rise has been shaped by both artistic ambition and public advocacy. Raised in Raleigh, North Carolina, she became widely known as a transgender rights activist after challenging North Carolina’s “bathroom bill” in a 2016 lawsuit, later earning a spot on Teen Vogue’s “21 Under 21” list.
Before acting, Schafer focused on visual art and design—studying watercolor painting and clothing design—and entered the fashion world in 2017, working with major brands. Though she originally aimed for art school, her path shifted when she was cast on HBO’s Euphoria, where her performance as Jules Vaughn drew acclaim and highlighted her creative voice, including a co-writing credit on the series.
Since then, Schafer has expanded into high-profile film work, including The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes as Tigris and Cuckoo as Gretchen, alongside appearances in projects such as Kinds of Kindness (Anna) and Mother Mary (Hilda). She also appears as herself in fashion and music-related titles like Inside the Dream: Mugler and ANOHNI Live Experiencce, continuing to bridge cinema, style, and culture.
