Jake Gyllenhaal

Jake Gyllenhaal (born December 19, 1980, in Los Angeles, California) is an American actor and producer known for immersive, character-driven performances across drama, thrillers, and blockbuster cinema. Raised in the film world, he is the son of director Stephen Gyllenhaal and screenwriter Naomi Foner, and the younger brother of actress Maggie Gyllenhaal.

Gyllenhaal started acting young, debuting in City Slickers before appearing in projects connected to his father. He gained wider attention with October Sky and broke through internationally as the haunted teen at the center of Donnie Darko. He soon balanced intimate storytelling with large-scale hits, including the disaster epic The Day After Tomorrow and the war drama Jarhead.

His career has been defined by bold choices, from the investigative tension of Zodiac to the acclaimed romance Brokeback Mountain, where his portrayal of Jack Twist earned major awards recognition. Later roles in films like Rendition and Moonlight Mile further showcased his range, while his work on stage and his public engagement with social issues underline a profile that extends beyond the screen.
