Janet Healy

Janet Healy (born June 17, 1965, USA) is a production executive and producer whose career bridges practical-era filmmaking and the modern digital animation boom. She began in live-action, gaining experience alongside notable directors including Stanley Kramer, Hal Ashby, and Sam Peckinpah, and later collaborated with Steven Spielberg on Close Encounters of the Third Kind and 1941, where she served as associate producer.

Healy became a key figure at George Lucas’ Industrial Light & Magic, rising to co-lead production during a pivotal period for visual effects. She helped steer landmark, Oscar-winning work on Terminator 2: Judgment Day and Jurassic Park, and was part of the industry’s shift from photochemical and in-camera methods to digital 2D and 3D pipelines. Her ILM-era credits also include visual effects producing on Ghostbusters II, Willow, and Joe Versus the Volcano, and she appears in LIGHT & MAGIC as an effects producer.

In animation, Healy led digital production at Walt Disney Feature Animation, overseeing CG contributions to Tarzan, Dinosaur, and Mulan, then moved to DreamWorks Animation and produced Shark Tale. In 2008, she joined Illumination and Universal, producing a run of global hits including Despicable Me, Minions, Sing, The Secret Life of Pets, and The Grinch.

Recognized for industry leadership, she is a founding member of the Visual Effects Society and has been honored with its Founders Award, alongside distinctions from France’s Ministry of Culture.
