Jason Hall
Jason Hall (born April 28, 1972, in Lake Arrowhead, California) is an American screen artist best known today as a screenwriter and director, with earlier work as an actor. He first built visibility on television, including a recurring role as Devon MacLeish on Buffy the Vampire Slayer and a guest appearance on Without a Trace.
Hall’s career pivoted behind the camera, where he became associated with character-driven, contemporary dramas. He co-wrote Paranoia (2003), wrote Spread (2009), and reached a wider audience with his adapted screenplay for American Sniper (2014), which earned him an Academy Award nomination for Best Adapted Screenplay.
Expanding into directing, Hall wrote and helmed Thank You for Your Service (2017) and later co-wrote Gran Turismo (2023). As an actor, his credits include roles in Play Dead, Terrarium, 44 Minutes: The North Hollywood Shoot-Out, The District, and CSI: Miami, along with appearances as himself in behind-the-scenes projects tied to American Sniper.
