Jason Winer

Jason Winer (born December 7, 1972, in Baltimore, Maryland) is an American director, producer, writer, actor, and comedian, widely recognized for his work in television comedy. He became a key creative force on ABC’s acclaimed Modern Family, where he served as both director and co-executive producer.

Raised in Baltimore, Winer went on to study at Northwestern University and sharpened his comedic craft at Chicago’s Improv Olympic Theatre. Early in his career, he appeared in national commercials for brands including Budweiser, Nike, and Dr Pepper, performed stand-up on outlets such as HBO, and gained visibility as a featured personality on MTV’s game show The Blame Game.

Winer soon transitioned behind the camera, directing projects such as The Adventures of Big Handsome Guy and His Little Friend (2005) and episodes of series including Kath & Kim, Samantha Who?, and Carpoolers. In 2010, his work on Modern Family earned him the DGA Award for Outstanding Directorial Achievement in Comedy.

He expanded into feature filmmaking with the 2011 remake of Arthur. Alongside his directing career, Winer has also appeared on screen in titles such as The Sum of All Fears, National Lampoon’s Van Wilder, and You, Me and Dupree.
