Jay Duplass
Jay Duplass (also credited as Lawrence Jay Duplass and Lawrence Jay Duplass Jr.) is a New Orleans-born American screen artist best known for his work as an actor, filmmaker, and author. Born on March 7, 1973, Duplass became a key voice in modern American indie storytelling, frequently collaborating with his younger brother, Mark Duplass.
Duplass first gained wide attention through brother-made features that helped define a lean, character-driven style of filmmaking, including The Puffy Chair (2005), Cyrus (2010), and Jeff, Who Lives at Home (2011). As a performer, his grounded presence has made him a reliable fit for intimate dramas and offbeat comedies alike.
On television, Duplass reached a broader audience with a prominent role on Amazon’s acclaimed comedy-drama Transparent (2014–2019). He also expanded his creative footprint behind the camera, co-creating HBO’s relationship-focused series Togetherness (2015–2016) and the inventive anthology Room 104 (2017–2020).
His film credits span projects such as Connect 5, Manson Family Vacation, Pain Hustlers, and The Caine Mutiny Court-Martial, reflecting a career built on versatility and sharp, human-scale storytelling.
