Jay Ellis
Jay Ellis (also known as 傑・艾利斯) is an American screen actor born on December 27, 1981, in Sumter, South Carolina. He first entered the entertainment world through modeling, a path that helped open doors before he relocated to Los Angeles to focus fully on acting.
Ellis began building momentum with early film and TV work, then landed his first widely recognized breakthrough in 2013 on BET’s hit series The Game. The role marked a turning point, placing him on a larger stage and setting up the next phase of his career in prestige television.
In 2015, Ellis joined the cast of HBO’s Insecure, which debuted in 2016 and became a defining credit for him. His continued connection to the series is reflected in appearances such as Insecure: The End, where he is credited as himself.
Beyond his TV profile, Ellis’ filmography spans varied projects and tones, including Movie 43, Dear Secret Santa, Breaking Through, and Freaky Tales, along with titles like The Gutter and My Favorite Five. He has also taken on behind-the-scenes responsibilities, earning an executive credit on The Last Days of TJ Staggs.
