Jerrod Carmichael

Jerrod Carmichael (also known as Rothaniel Jerrod Carmichael) is an American stand-up comedian, actor, and writer born on June 22, 1987, in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. He’s known for pairing sharp, minimalist comedy with candid storytelling—an approach that has carried him from club stages to major film and television projects.

At 20, Carmichael moved to Los Angeles to chase stand-up before he’d even tried it, making his first appearance at an open mic at The Comedy Store. After grinding through the club circuit and landing a spotlight slot at Montreal’s Just for Laughs “New Faces,” he broke through on screen with the 2014 hit Neighbors as Garf, later reprising the role in Neighbors 2: Sorority Rising.

Carmichael expanded his profile with HBO specials including Jerrod Carmichael: Love at the Store (directed by Spike Lee) and the Emmy-winning Jerrod Carmichael: Rothaniel, directed by Bo Burnham and widely discussed for its personal revelations. He also created and starred in NBC’s semi-autobiographical The Carmichael Show, praised for tackling contemporary social issues head-on.

His recent acting credits include Poor Things as Harry Astley, alongside roles in Transformers: The Last Knight and The Disaster Artist. Beyond acting, he has continued to develop boundary-pushing, autobiographical work, including HBO projects and a documentary-style series centered on his life.
