Jez Butterworth
Jez Butterworth (born March 1, 1969, in London, England) is a British playwright and screenwriter celebrated for muscular storytelling that often threads myth and folklore through sharply observed realism. Across stage and screen, his work is known for vivid characters, dark humor, and an ear for contemporary speech.
He first broke through in theatre with Mojo (1995), a noir-tinged comedy that earned major acclaim in the UK and later led to his feature directorial debut with the film version in 1997. His stage reputation expanded with Jerusalem, frequently cited as a defining modern British play, and with The Ferryman (2017), a Troubles-era drama that went on to win both an Olivier Award and a Tony Award.
Butterworth has also become a sought-after film writer, contributing to projects ranging from Birthday Girl and Fair Game to blockbuster and prestige titles such as Edge of Tomorrow, Get On Up, Black Mass, and Ford v Ferrari. He has co-written franchise entries including the Bond film Spectre and Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny.
On Trailerix, he is also associated with appearances including Timeless Heroes: Indiana Jones and Harrison Ford (as Self) and Chandler & Co (as Adam Harper).
